Better eCommerce: Your New Year's Resolutions

As a brand new year stretches out before us, it's time to make those New Year's resolutions. The majority of these focus on breaking bad habits: not spending, eating, or drinking too much are common goals. Naturally, the Brickweb team can't help you with these (though we do wish you good luck!) but we ARE able to offer some advice when it comes to breaking bad habits in your eCommerce operations.

DO... Set Goals

When looking at data about online performance, the bad news often stands out more than the good, giving you a reason to complain. The fact is that the bad news can inform you just as well, if not better, than the good. Any digital campaign entails many different logistics, first researching and implementing then testing and analysing the results. The first step should be to set key goals so that the campaign can be created and optimised to reach them. Treat any 'failure' as an experience of learning and use the information to tweak your strategy. By setting clear goals, you'll be better able to create a winning campaign.

DON'T... Believe in Universal Conversion Rates

A common mistake made by the operators of eCommerce websites is assuming that every campaign has a predictable, universal conversion rate. This is emphatically not the case. While the quality of any campaign is important, there are many more factors that ca affect rates of conversion. These myriad factors include price points, product demand and viability, brand reputation, competition, trust, and many more.

DO... Reward your Customers

When you have an understanding of what your customers want, who they are, and where they originate, you can begin targeting them with personalised content that rewards loyalty. When a customer is offered a promotion on a product that is related to their previous purchases, they are much more likely to make another. It is of course essential to acquire and convert customers but never overlook the importance of rewarding those that already exist.

DON'T... Rely too Heavily on Images

It is of course essential to include high-quality product images but are they enough? Shopping in a brick-and-mortar store offers opportunities for interaction with a product in a way that shopping online cannot match. It's therefore highly advisable to include product videos or even AI technology, both of which can be expertly provided by Brickweb. You should also include a decent amount of textual information that is clear, concise, and to the point.
