The Poppy Appeal 2025 A Personal Story from Brick Technology

As the Royal British Legion launches the Poppy Appeal 2025, we at Brick Technology Limited, based in Chorley, are proud to once again show our support and gratitude for the organisation that helped us get started thirty years ago.

In 1995, a small £5,000 interest-free loan from the Royal British Legion gave us our very first lifeline, enough to buy our first computer and a telephone. That simple act of trust and generosity set Brick Technology on its journey to becoming what it is today. Without the Legion’s help, we might never have made it off the ground.

Our founder, Colin Clarke, a former member of the Royal Air Force, understands first-hand the challenges that come with leaving service life and starting anew. The Royal British Legion continues to be there for thousands of others making that same transition today — not just the heroes of the past, but the men and women, and their families, who serve and sacrifice right now.

The Poppy Is Not Just for Spitfire Pilots

The poppy remains a powerful symbol of remembrance, but it also represents hope, support and solidarity for modern veterans and their loved ones. The Legion’s work extends far beyond commemorating history, it provides mental health support, financial assistance, rehabilitation, and guidance to those rebuilding their lives after service.

At Brick Technology, remembrance is personal.
We honour our family members and colleagues who have served through the generations:

  • William James Clarke, who fought in the First World War and was evacuated from Dunkirk in the Second.

  • James Austin Clarke, who joined the RAF the moment war was declared.

  • Jack Pickup, tank commander in Belgium, France and Holland, who carried the nightmares of war long after it ended.

  • Colin Clarke, who served with the Royal Air Force in Cornwall, Berlin, Holland, Australia and Singapore.

  • Dmitryo, a talented Ukrainian programmer and part of #TeamBrick, who volunteered to defend his homeland and remains missing in action.

This year, as we wear our poppies, we remember all who serve past and present and the families who stand behind them.

The Royal British Legion continues to make an extraordinary difference to veterans’ lives, just as it once did for us. That’s why we proudly support the Poppy Appeal 2025 and encourage everyone to do the same.
