5G: The Future of Mobile Internet

Consumers in the UK are expected to use a massive THIRTEEN TIMES more mobile data in 2025 that they currently do today. The rollout of 5G, which should easily be able to handle this huge increase in demand, has already begun in five major UK cities and will be extended to cover 25 major UK cities by the end of 2019.

Both Vodafone and EE have already made inroads into the 5G market in the UK and, in August, mobile company Three will join them with what it is calling the 'fastest 5G network in the UK'. The August launch date was announced by the company after trials in London proved to be highly successful.

A spokesperson for Three said that the mobile company "have more than twice as much 5G spectrum as the nearest competitor" and will be able to deliver "significantly faster speeds" to customers using mobile data. Three plan to give customers in the UK a 'true' 5G experience by being the only mobile company to deliver 100MHz of 5G spectrum (the figure used by the 5G global standards body to describe the new technology).

Dave Dyson, the CEO of Three, said, "It’s clear that consumers and businesses want more and more data.  We have the UK’s best network for data and we have led the market on customer usage on both 3G and 4G technologies." He added that, "..peak mobile speeds will be at least 2x faster than other mobile network operators and will provide a more reliable connection and experience for customers.
