10 Millionth .uk Registered with Nominet!

Brick technology web design have always been saying that now has never been a better time to go online and get your company or business a website. With more and more people realising the potential online we have now seen the 10 millionth .uk address registered at Nominet.

The 10 millionth web address ending in .uk has been claimed by Hampshire based firm, SN Technoloies for a photography website which will launch in summer. This is a milestone for Nominet as it took the top-level domain in 1996 when there were only 26000 .uk sites.

This registration shows the growth of the UK internet and that lots of new businesses are trying to get online and purchase their first domain name. In total 70% of all web addresses are renewed.

Many have to register top level domain names in order to avoid being hit by a cybersquatter who aims to buy a name in the hope of selling it for a much higher price. In addition to this there are other domain names than .uk which you may need to register like .com and .xxx which was the domain names for the adult section of the internet.

Many businesses and companies were registering these to protect the brand and company name from any explicit content as well as their competitors. On average companies have to register around 30 domain names just for protection purposes. This isn’t all waste though as many who register a .uk site will expand their business and go from UK to a global market and thus will use their .com or other instances like.ie to target say Ireland.

If you are a business who is looking to setup online then you need professional help and Brick technology can help you with this. We have helped many businesses to grow right from the initial stages of having nothing – not even a domain name to now taking the top positions within the search engines and dominating much of the UK and global search market for their chosen keywords and phrases.
